KASHGAR OUTPOST (M) is rated 4.7778 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great as general travel bag too I use this as a general travel bag for domestic and international trips and sometimes on weekends too. Fits an iPad, small camera, cotton hat, water bottle & book and map really well. Good security with zips and buckles, and plenty of different pockets and compartments and padding without being bulky or heavy. Very comfortable to wear on shoulder or crosswise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfy, light, protective and fast on the draw! The Crumpler Kashgar Outpost (M) was created for the active outdoor shooter and it shows in the design and materials. First, the water resistant 600D twill is tough as nails and dense closed cell foam padding protects your gear without bulk. An oversized zippered lid keeps out the elements but a buckle is available for quick access in fair weather. No noisy velcro to scare off animals or human subjects and, if you ever get stuck in a downpour, a rain cover may be deployed for extra protection. Configured to top load a small or medium DSLR (lens pointing down), the fold-over flaps of the dividers serve as rests for the camera grip, making it easy to grab for a quick shot. Dividers are covered with soft cloth but have a rigid frame, easily supporting camera weight without buckling. The interior is lined with a soft tricot-like fabric and is kind to camera delicates. The lining grabs velcro like glue, allowing easy configuration of the two dividers. It's a small slim bag--25 cm wide (9.84") x 24 cm tall (9.45") x 16 cm deep (6.3") and a featherweight at .66 kg (1.46 LB). Interior capacity is similar to the Crumpler 5 Million Dollar Home. However, the Kashgar makes the most of its space and easily holds a medium DSLR with mounted normal zoom and another small lens and flash. For example, my EOS 6D/24-105 4L, Speedlite 430EX II and EF 35 2.0 IS USM fit inside nicely. A pro DSLR, e.g., 1DX, or battery grip adorn DSLR will not fit. There's plenty of room for small items like filters and cards in the front and rear pockets, and an iPhone, small flash or charger can squeeze in the side pockets. One look at this bag and you know an iPad Mini will not fit in the rear slip pocket. The zippered opening is too small and the pocket too tight. However, the front pocket is approximately 6" x 9" so an iPad Mini (5.3" x 7.87") can be stowed in front if you remove the rain cover. The Amazon description of "an rear slip compartment is large enough to house an iPad Mini ..." was likely mistakenly copied from the large size Kashgar Outpost specs. The large is nearly two inches larger and has room for an iPad Mini. Buy the medium Kashgar for maximum portability and packability: 1.46 LBs is an easy carry and it's petite enough to jam into the bottom of my Timbuk2 Especial Medio daypack, leaving room for a jacket, cap and lunch and still squeeze the works under an airline seat! This is a bag for a pedestrian photographer and bikers or runners will not be happy with the lack of a cross strap or fast adjustment buckle. Nevertheless I found the Kashgar Outpost a joy to carry sling style: the 38 cm/2" wide strap and shoulder pad distribute weight evenly across shoulder and chest and don't slide or slip. Also, the grab handle is one of best I've used: large, comfy and pivots where you need it. It's thoughtfully attached to the bag's side, not the top, so you can grab and lift without contents spilling if you neglect to secure the lid. The Midnight Blue fabric is attractive but subdued, blending easily into denim or dark clothing. In bright light it's a medium dark indigo. The Amazon product image is too dark, almost appearing black. This design has echoes of a quasi-military legacy and looks a little less like a camera bag than the average Tamrac or Lowepro bag, albeit not as incognito as a Timbuk2 Snoop. Finally, the exterior fabric is clothing friendly and doesn't "sand" holes in my t-shirt, unlike my similar sized Crumpler 5 Million Dollar Home. The Kashgar Outpost (M) is not the right bag for big kits, stowing lots of electronic gadgets or hipsters attempting to look cool. Instead, it's ideal for roughing it with a basic DSLR or mirrorless kit. Light packers--street shooters, travelers and hikers--will likely gravitate towards this comfy, stealthy, lightweight and fast on the draw design.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Handles tough conditions Took my Kashgar Outpost into the Labyrinth in Cradle Mountain National Park for 5 days. We did a lot of scrambling and were in almost constant cloud and rain. The bag is made from heavy duty material that can handle a lot of abrasion and knocks. With the waterproof cover on and the addition of some silica gel paks, my professional gear was kept well-protected and dry. The functionality of the bag is first rate too. The only negative for me is the incredibly bright blue waterproof cover which I'm not fond of. I bought this pack in part, due to its mute khaki colour scheme. Arrrgh my eyes, they bleed!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bag! Bought this bag for my camera about a month ago. Absolutely stoked with the quality of its design and construction. The shoulder strap is wide and comfortable to wear around all day. The movable compartments are great for my different camera gear and its plenty big enough for my camera, extra lense and the charger. Rain cover is also a nice feature. But by far the best thing is the lifetime warranty and the absolutely fantastic service I received from the guys in the Doncaster store when buying it. Recommend Crumpler bags to anyone looking for a real good quality bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact & comfy I bought this 1 month ago for carrying my new DSLR camera on my holiday. As a rule, when in the bag it had an 18-135mm lens attached & plus the bag could accommodate 2 additional smaller length lenses. I needed and appreciated so much the wonderful rain cover that's quick and easy to fit and which does a great job of keeping the bag & its contents dry.
